Clean Tone Tube Amp Question

Re: Clean Tone Tube Amp Question

Unclipped, tubes have a remarkable capability to reproduce, accurately, very fine details from the original wave form. Technically this is what bandwidth is: The amount of information that can be handled to a given level of gain. For tubes this is actually quite high. This is why the best sounding and most expensive Hi-Fi gear is still tube. There's more 3D depth (often referred to as sound stage), more detail, and a greater constrast of dynamics with the top tube Hi-Fi gear, compared to the top SS Hi-Fi gear. If you have ever heard a good female vocalist through tube play back gear you know what I mean.

And I would totally disagree with this. Over the years, the JC-120 and it's little brethren have always sounded harsh and brittle to me. My SUNN Solos amp, due to it's MOSFET design, has a warmth that the JC-120 simply doesn't have.

I don't think you'd mistake the Roland for a tube amp.

Well, I won't disagree that the Roland can seem harsh, it leaves no room for slop. However, every right note that you play will be heard with equal clarity.
