Clean Tones: Fender vs Fender

The blackface and silverface Super Reverb and Twin Reverb have the loudest clean tone of all of the vintage Fender amps, IMO.
Lew... you leave out the Super Twin... Go ahead, just try to overdrive 180w of Fender clean power...

You're right...but that amp has no soul :) so I didn't mention it. Lew

back when I was fender shopping, I had a line on a twin. Dave Manning of G2D pedals told me that he commonly replaced the mid pots on twins with something that allowed more midrange push. Pretty much any decent tech can probably mod a 65ri's tone stack for an older fender tone.
Thanks :beerchug:

Re: Clean Tones: Fender vs Fender

Want more mids from a blackface or silverface Fender? Replace the 10K midrange pot with a 25K pot. If you don't have a tone pot you'll find a 6.8K resistor soldered to the back of the treble control...that 6.8K resistor is like a 10K mid pot turned to a 6.8K resistance. Replace it with 10K, 15K, 20K or 25K until you have the midrange you need. Lew

Re: Clean Tones: Fender vs Fender

i think that lower powered blackface amps have the 'wailiest' tone for strats. Like a deluxe-when you turn it up to 7 and it gives you that semi clean, semi raunchy, sustaining tone with a strat, it just begs for you to play SRV style double stops drenched in reverb....
