Any suggestions on what to use to clean a maple fretboard?

I think Dan Erlewine says to scrape them off with a credit card.

NO NO NO, do not scrape maple with anything unless you have no other choice. The clear over the maple is easily scratched. Hot breath, spit, napthla if needed. No steel wool or anything else to dull the finish.

i got a reallly quick hijack-do most really old fenders lose almost all of their nitro finish from the backs of their necks by now?
