Clearest Delay Pedal?

I've owned the boss dd-6, boss dd-3, and have tried out the line 6 echopark. the thing that pissed me off about them, was that whenever i was on distorted tone, the sound was awful. like, when I would bend a note, the "echoed" notes would all sort of mash together and you'd get this horrible "grindy" sound. Are there any delays that DON'T do this? I just want to add some nice, warm, echoey delay to my leads.

p.s, if possible, in your suggestions, try to exclude rack units and large pedals. i wanna keep it within stompboxes.

Sounds like your hitting the input too hard and its clipping

Any of those pedals are as clean as it gets

distortion's from a solid state amp. does it make a difference whether i am using a solid state or tube amp in terms of the clarity of the delay pedal?

If you use the pedal in the front of the amp...well no wonder it sounds bad then!!
It needs to be in the loop of the amp, if it has one!
And then it needs to be seriel and running at musiclevels...or you are still sunk!

Wait, didnt you believe that pedals dont belong in the loop? that loops are for rack stuff?

^Sigh....I survived the 80s......loops are to be parallel, and running at linelevel.
Then you use a linemixer and the 19" stuff at full wet, mix it upon the signal with the mixer!!
Then you keep that nice amp signal intact and have effect traveling parallel.
Most ideal would be to have a dry amp in the middle and two fully wet amps for the effect left and right!
If you are into such stuff....it is just a major PITA to drag around and configure as well!
Pedals in my not very humble oppinion has no place in a stinking loop!!
They are simply not designed for that!

Boss DD series is as clean as I've heard. That's the sound of delay into a distorting amp, you need to put the delay after your distortion source for the sound you are looking for. That means either use a dirt box in front of the delay or put delay in the loop.

Despite Rid's comment that pedals aren't designed for the loop, you might as well try it. If the sound you get is better than your current sound, then you might as well go for it.

Yeh needs to be after distortion use a pedal if you don't have a loop there are tons and tons of good pedals out there and its better then putting up with a distorted delay (vs a delayed distortion which is what you want)

There's the problem... delay pedals need to come AFTER whatever distortion stage you're using. That means in the loop of the amp if you're using the amp's distortion or after your distortion pedal if you're using the pedal as the primary distortion stage.

Man, you've just saved a couple of hundred $ (for a new pedal)!
