Cleveland project comes home!!!

Well, it took a long time and it's finally here!

I've done several threads on the progress as it's taken shape but now it's done and got here this afternoon...I've been plaing her prety solid for several hours now and it's time to post pics.

Scott really did out do himself on this one...amazing work for sure! I had high hopes and was not at all let down.

These pics were taken by Scott after he finished it before he dropped it in the mail...enjoy!

Grats! Always good to have new wood in the hands. I mean, uh...yeah, I'll go with that.

Re: Cleveland project comes home!!!

Oops! Forget the specs...

Very traditional early 50's specs (1950 to be exact!)...one piece (FAT!) maple neck, very subtle (and really nice looking) flame neck, 2 piece off center seam swamp ash body, all nitro finish, very light relic work...bit of closet classic wear if you will. The body and neck came from Tommy at USACG.

It's got a mix of Fender, Callaham and Glendale hardware and a Luxe wiring kit all wired up to a set of Voodoo pickups (BDcaster bridge 9.2k, and a vintage neck, 7.8k) (Sorry Seymour!) that are wired like a 1950 Broadcaster...that is the blend control wiring and it is mega cool!

The case is a real G&G Thermometer case and the strap was custom made and copied from a 1951 Telecaster strap.

It's a blast to play!

Anybody looking for a vintage style Fender guitar that doesn't cost an arm and a leg hook up with Scott at Cleveland Guitars and get yourself one...you won't be sorry!

That looks schweet man!

If it plays & sounds even half as good as it looks...

Whuz the "blend" wiring? Separate volumes for each pickup, no tone control?

Re: Cleveland project comes home!!!

beautiful beautiful man. Congrats bro and good luck. I've been following your threads (not really responding though) and its really exciting to see the finished product came out so darn authentic! Is it like a U shape neck profile or slightly different (I dont know the 1950 neck specs)?

the neck profile is actually hand shaped, I put a very very slight v to the first 5 or so frets and faded that into a more U shape though I think it really rests somewhere between and u and a c.

the blend wiring actually works like this, bridge position can blend in the neck pickup using the traditional tone knob, the middle position has the neck pickup with a 15k resistor and the neck position is just the neck pickup with 15k resistor and the cap. kind of a darker sounding tele neck pickup. really cool sounds.

thank you all again and especially thank you Christian. it was really my pleasure to build this one. it is a fantastic guitar and I am very glad it went to such a fine person.

Re: Cleveland project comes home!!!

The neck is magic!!!! Real 1950's necks are really all over the map but I til Scott what I kind of wanted and we just went from there. The neck Ibought was a fat full C and Scott reshaped it to have a very soft V that fades out to a cross between a C and a U...it's still really fat and full...really fills the palm of my hand and has a great shape. I haven't measure it but the nut width is right between 1 5/8 and 1 11/16 and the depth is near 1" all the way up.

The 1950 wiring is a really simple wiring but for some reason Leo only used it for a year or so...

In the bridge position you get the bridge pickup, volume control and the 2nd knob blends in the neck pickup as you rll it back...no tone control, the middle position is the neck pickup with just a volume control and the neck position is the neck pickup with a small resistor and a .05 cap which gives you a VERY dark full sound.

The thing you have to be mindful of is that with this set up there is NO tone control at all so if the pickups are really bright and toppy you can't dial it out, I got lucky and I think these pickups will stay long term...my first impressions are really high!

Wow! This is so nice it hurts. Great job, Scott! Congrats on your new acquisition, Christian. This is how a Tele should look.

High five!

Re: Cleveland project comes home!!!

Thanks again guys!

I just can't get over how old the guitar feels and sounds plus it sounds so big...I mean really BIG! I love it! I've hardly set it down today!

I need to get some better pics of it, at least the neck...the flame is so subtle but looks killer and the nice old looking nitro finish on the neck just sets it off!

Again a big thanks to Scott for all the amazing work and help, Curly for his help with ideas and specs along the way as well as Tommy and crew at USACG for great wood...thats sounds wrong but it's so right!
