Clink, Clank, Clunk

ok guys......ive looked over my amp position and ive concluded that i want the sound of The Beatles lol..not exactly, but.......an amp with 2 channels, clean and overdrive.......

clean being a very clanky and clucky voicing..glassy sounds on the low strings....almost like a plexi set cleanish... so not as lush and warm clean tone as my fenders......... but still with good sustain and response

and overdrive being a classic rock voiced sound...with a lot of sing and sustain again......ala Cream and The Yardbirds, and the Beatles rhythm tones on "Paperback writer"......

im thinkin of an AC30 at the moment.....but i do want an amp that can push some air, so id prefer more around 50 watts..... 2X12 or heads only

Re: Clink, Clank, Clunk

Ever try a Rickinbacker Guitar? That was a vital part of the jangley
sound on them old records, Just as much as the AC-30. There great
ryhthm guitars, But try to play a lead on it :arg: there's reason ya
never see a blues guy play'in one :saeek:

yeah, ive played a few rickenbackers.....i know that was a key part for the jangly clanky sound, but im just talkin in a more general sense

i suppose im lookin for an amp that sounds similar to a plexi set clean on the clean channel..maybe not neccesarily a GREAT clean channel, i already have that with my fenders, but just somethin differnt for the 50s and early 60s clanky glassy sounds ...and a nice yardbirds Cream style singing overdrive on the dirty channel... again, nothing dead on, but just the overall voicings...... im more interested in the overdrive channel of the amp because i wil also be getting an Ampeg VT22 along with this amp, so i will have a totally differnt clean sound there also

i suppose i want an amp with so so clanky cleans lol and a cool british overdrive channel also (marshally Voxy)

Re: Clink, Clank, Clunk

Why not simply get a Vox AC-30? You know the cleans are gonna be dead on and overdriven you'll get a great classic sounding overdrive. It's obviously the British type of sound I think you like (I tend to like the British tone myself). All you need to get two great tones is to set it to clean and then use something like a Tube Screamer, or, even better, a Klon Centaur to overdrive it without even the slightest change in EQ or coloring of tone.

yeah yeah.........thats what im thinkin, an AC30..... but what is a good price for one? i know of one in a local store now from the 80s that is kinda beat up, but functions perfectly for 1000......... is that a good price for an AC30? im not sure what they go for new, used......etc

Re: Clink, Clank, Clunk

The AC30 is a loud amp...as loud as any of my 50 watters. One of the best amps I've ever owned but I never played it at home because the thing was so loud and never played it out cuz the thing was so heavy.

Get the Alnico Blue speakers...avoid the Greenbacks as the Blues are the speakers with the Beatles tone.
