Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

Now that I've installed Hot Rails for my bridge, I know first hand what they sound like. What would be the closesest to the tone and output of Hot Rails that looks just like regular single coils?

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

I like your signature...pretty funny!

Don't know the answer to your question tho...maybe none!

The only one that comes to mind is the Fralin Steel Pole 43 which has much of the tone of a P90.

the duncan hot and qp, dimarzio sds-1 and vv solo are all high output single coils as well but dont sound like a hot rails. you just dont like the rail look?

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

I don't mind the look, I just wanted my strat to look original as possible

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

umm... try some staggered singles
maybe the dimarzio HS-3 or the YJM, they got a very smooth tone and are high output pups (malmsteen uses them and his sound is pretty sweet). maybe a classic stack or the custom stack, but i dont know how they sound

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

I'd also say the HS-3. The YJM is just an HS-3 with staggered poles. So, either one. :)

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

NOt many if none at alll. The hotrails "rail" look gives it its characteristics. That pikc up is VERY hot and made to be like a humbucker not a single coil. Which may be why a single coil cant be compared tot hat of a humbucker made to fit in the space of a single coil.

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

The YJM, HS3 and HS2 have nowhere near the output of the Fast Track 2 or the Hot Rails, who cares what it looks like as long as it rocks.

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

The HR sounds like it does because of how it looks and is made, not despite it. I don't think you'll find that tone in a single style pickup.

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

I'm sure there's a way in my mind to modify a Hot Rails to look like a single coil, but it'd make it not as easy to adjust it as high as you'd want, and the added "Fake" polepieces would change the magnetic field.

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

would the custom shop have anything for you by chance? i wouldnt know never dealt with them but they might who knows.

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

Best way to keep your Strat looking original: Leave it original.

Part of the fun of mods is making your guitar look different from the boring ones hanging up at Guitar Center.

The YJM actually sounds WEAKER than most newer stock strat pups, IMHO...

Wish I could help you out on this one, but I've never heard a single that sounds like the HR... :smack:

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

slightly largen the hole in your pg for the bridge. spend some time making a custom pup cover, then get some plastic and make the "pole pieces" and spray paint 'em.

Re: Closest to Hot Rails but Single Coil Look

Cool idea. I actually tried to make the HR fit into original plastic cover but the walls were just too thick (if it can be made to fit into original cover, then it would surely fit into pg without modifying hole). I wouldn't know where to start on "making" my own cover: I neither have the tools nor the know-how.
