CODE BLUE: I lost my tone

I installed a JazzB/APS1/SSL1 combo in my strat , plugged it in, and the tone controls don't seem to work and the volume doesn't work unless its on 10. And on 10, the volume is not loud.
I've been experiementing with several different pups the last few weeks and I finally decided to go with the JazzB/APS1/SSL1....

The only thing changed is the pups, everything else is soledered the same as before.

I've tried to look and see if I did anything different but it looks the same to me. I have no idea what might have happened.
I did change caps also but it looks to be installed the same as before....

Anyone have any idea what might have happened?

I appreciate any help at all.

Thanks,
Robert

You didn't loose your tone you just wired your guitar wrong...

Go back over everything useing a good schematic and I bet money you'll find a wiring mistake...take your time and look at everything.

Yeah thats what I figured but I just can't seem to see what I've done different here. I only changed out the pups........everything else was already in place...

I even put together a new pickguard with all new parts using the seymour duncan schematic and still it's doing the same thing.....

Could it be my amp?

Did you look under the couch? What about in the pocket of the pants you wore yesterday?

Really, though, thoroughly check the wiring. Sometimes everything looks fine but you have a cold solder joint. If you have a multimeter then check continuity. Often times it's very easier to bugger up the ground on the back of a pot.

When you say everything else is as it was before, do you mean you left it untouched or that you put it back the way it was before? If it worked before then I wouldn't concern myself with checking the factory solder joints.

Good luck.

Re: CODE BLUE: I lost my tone

Did you use the same 5 way switch for all the different pickup trials? You can fry them if you overheat them. That or you could've gotten some solder where it doesn't belong.

Personally, I get tired of soldering so I usually keep some spares around and change my parts out when I have this kind of issue. Alternatively, if you're the tireless type you can wire each pickup directly to the output jack...this will tell you if the pickups are working. When you're sure each one works, try wiring one directly to the volume pot (where your 5 way was attached). If you get a good signal there you know your volume pot is okay. Just do some basic troubleshooting and let us know how it works.

I left everything else untouched and was just changing out the pups.

Maybe I fried the pots....I've changed them out several times...
But then again, I put a new pickguard together with new parts and it did the same thing....

It frustrates me more than anything, but I'll keep messing around until I figure it out.

I think I should have left well enough alone!!

Thanks guys for the help, I'll let ya know what I did wrong.

Yeah I'm getting tired of soldering also. Like I said, I should have left well enough alone. I found a real nice tone and I was leaving it with this last install........go figure....oh well...lol
