Coil Split for Slap Bass?

I am getting into slap bass, but if I just start slapping, I'm way too loud in the mix. My bass currently is a 3 conductor bridge humbucker and an active bass and treble control. I don't use the active/passive switch at all since I have a rechargable battery pack, so I was wondering if it might be worth it to put a coil split on there to drop the volume and thin the mids out. A slap switch, if you will. The pickup is a generic Indonesian model I found on Ebay to replace the broken stock pickup. It doesn't sound bad full or split, but I want to know if it's a good idea before I drill into the face of my instrument

maybe just use a push/pull pot to split so you dont have to drill? or kick on a compressor to even things out before ya start going slappy.

not a bad idea to have the option to split and it may help with the output difference between styles

Compressor is probably more important here, but you don't need to drill for a switch to see if you like it. Just leave the switch hanging out of the control cavity until you get a feel for whether or not you like it.
