Coil Spliting Help!!! Please!!!

I have decided that this summer I want to do some work on my guitars I have 4 electrics that I am modding the electronics of. I ran into a problem though. I am not very good at electronics.

I have and Ibanez SZ that I want to mod... The guitar has 2 humbuckers, a 3way switch, 2 volumes and 1 tone controll.

I want to be able to coil split both humbuckers so that the coils closes to the neck and bridge are activated and the 2 coils in the middle are shut off. with a push/pull pot if possible but I want to still be able to use the 3way switch to select the different singlecoils so I can get a sudo tele sound from them when split.

I tried to figure out which diagram to use on the sight but I got too confused. I also dont know if what I want is even possible without having to alter the guitar with more than just new pots and wiring.

The pups are Duncan/Ibanez and sound great. They do have the four wire leads as the stock wiring for the guitar had middle possition wired so that it was only 1 coil from both pups. I had it moded by a tech a few years ago so I could have a more Les Paul sound in middle position but I want to do the wiring myself this time but I need some guidance.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Adding a push pull to split pickups and use the outside coils is easy. If both pickups are seymour duncans with their same color codes, then you attach the two split leads to ground on the one side of the push pull, then on the other side of the push pull you attach the split leads of the neck pickup to its hot output. This will deactivate the slug side on both pickups.



Can you describe more on you middle position mod? It seems like you had it set up so the middle position of the 3 way switch has both inner coils in series, to give it a beefy sound. I dont think that you can have both this modification and the outside coil split that you want to do at the same time.


You will have to pick which one you want and go with it.

The original wiring was that the coils were split in middle position. It is now wired like a LP in that both coils of both humbuckers are on in middle position. there is no coil spliting in the current setup.

I want to be able to split the coils so I can have a Tele type wring when the humbuckers are split so that when the 3way is on 1 position it is one coil from the bridge pup, middle position is 1 coil from each pup and the 3rd position is 1 coil from the neck

When they are not split I want 1 position to be the bridge only the middle to be both humbuckers(like a LP) and the 3rd position to be just the neck Humbucker.

Does that clarify what I am looking for?

Look at the diagrams on this site. This is a common and easy wiring.

I couldnt figure out which one of the diagrams was the one I am describing. I dont want to wind up wiring it wrong.

Do you know which diagram is for the set up I want?
