HolyDirt said:I reckon it wouldnt be hard to mod it so that the heat comes on when you press a button, instead.

Ball&Chain said:well, ill say both yay and nay. I have one and used it for the first time today. I used it to replace the neck and bridge pups in one of my guitars. At first i found it fairly awkward. The tip is in 2 halves as some have said. In order for the heat to activate, the iron has to be on and both halves of the iron need to be in contact with metal.
It took some practice in order to do this smoothly, which was a pain in the rear, but It was awefully convenient not having the wires and waiting for an iron to heat up.
After you pull the iron away it cools almost instantly and you can set it aside if need be safely.
Its a good idea, but definately needs to be improved upon.
FretFire said:I don't really see any advantages here. I take my iron out and turn it on first, let it warm while I'm gathering up the rest of the supplies I'll need for the job. Setting the iron aside isn't a problem either if you have one of the simple coil stands. IMO the cold heat is a good idea, just not for guitar work.
Ball&Chain said:Try doing that with a tazmanian Devilesque 2 year old in the house.
See the advantage now?
FretFire said:True, but a locked door can fix that problem too.
