My Cold Heat soldering iron came in today! It works pretty damn good! It takes 4 AA batteries. You turn it on and the little light below the tip comes on. The tip has a split down the middle like a fountain pen. When you touch both parts to whatever you are soldering it activates and produces a visible arc. It seems pretty effecient because it only took about 2 seconds to completely fill the metal hole on the end of a 500K pot lead with rosin core solder. What's really strange is that the lead looks and feels like plastic but it obviously is conductive. :22:

It was about 3 months! It took 2 1/2 months after I ordered it before the payment even showed up on my bank statement. I figure they're just overwhlemed by the volume of orders.beandip said:

HAS any one else got one of these ? if so are you happy with it? i ordered one back in the summer, after a month & no show, i called ,they said it was backordered, would be 3 -4 weeks more,pissed me off, i CANCELED order, now i've seen them on ebay , i would like to have it if it WORKS....btw SORRY for digging up old posts...rammer

I asked about tis a few weeks ago. Seems like folks are split on it. I think it's worth a try. I've seen them in stores and I'm sure you can find a guy at the local mall who has them in one of those little booths in the center of the mall. For the money, I'ld go for it.

Ditto.
It just doesn't put the heat in the right places. Maybe I'm not a good at soldering(ok well I'm probably not) but I couldn't get it to melt old joints to lift old leads in order to put new ones in. And the area where you have to stick the solder in to get it to flow in is so small it's like a damn game getting it to work.
Thank god it was only $20.

I bought mine at Radio shack for $20.00. It does work and it can work well. I personally find it difficult to fit in the cavity of a guitar, so It would not be my first choice in wiring a guitar. The second problem with it is the tips are made of a very soft material and can easily be damaged requiring you to change tips. The tips cost about $9.00. The trick is to use very light pressure when applying the iron to the solder joint. I think it is a good product to keep in your GIG bag for emergencies, but when I want to wire something on my work bench I will use the real thing.
