Combining SD Hot Rails and Antiquity ii custom for the bridge?

Hello everyone,

since I am about to buy a new guitar, and will want to personalize the Pick-up configuration (the presetted ones aren't that good tbh), I really wanted to ask some experts for their opinion.

To be precise, the guitar is this one:

http://japan-discoveries.com/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&cPath=2_9_32&products_id=2519

As you can see, the Pick-up configuration is kinda weird, especially for the bridge. For the neck, I already have an idea about which Pick-up to use (it would be the DiMarzio DP165 neck humbucker), but for the bridge I don't know whether it would be a good idea to match the following combination: For the Pick-up nearest to the bridge I had thought placing a Hot Rails and right next to it an Antiquity ii custom bridge. Following the descriptions of both PUs, this should lead to a balance between distorted and clean sounds for the bridge (which is what I want). Now I also heard that the Hot Rails already works as kind of a Humbucker, so I started doubtin wether it would be a good idea to combine it with a single coil (together as one "real" Humbucker I mean, just as in the guitar I reffer to).

I admit being quite a noob at Pick-ups, that's why I'd love to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance :)

welcome to the forum!

that guitar as stock has a pair of single coils (ssl5 neck and bridge) and pair of single coil sized humbuckers (lil 59 and lil screamin demon)

i would play the guitar with the stock pups for a while before you swap things out. its a pretty unorthodox configuration but i think it might be very cool.

the hot rails is a single coil size humbucker so you could just swap it in for the lil demon if you wanted.

i do not think you can swap the antiquity II in for the ssl5. the bottom bobbin is a different shape.

Thanks very much taking your time and answering my question.

I get your point, I should really try out the stock PUs and see how they sound before changing anything. But the reason for wanting to change them is because there are two more versions of the guitar I showed you, from ESP, and therefore way more expensive, But the PU configuration on those 2 versions is different from the Edwards version (the one I showed you in the first place). Just to make things clearer, here are all versions listed: http://www.espguitars.co.jp/artist/aoi/index.html
Basically I just want my guitar to sound the best it can regarding my musical style, which would be e.g. the artist whose signature guitar I want to buy.
I would really appreciate if you or anyone could also say something about placing the DiMarzio DP165 at the neck position. Would there be a big change compared to the Stock PUs?

Again, thanks in advance!

those must be specially made antiquity II single coils. the bottom bobbin on the normal ones is not that shape and will not fit. im sure you can purchase that pup but im not sure how much it will cost.
