IF i wrer to combine the best qualitys of two pickups, and have them made by the custom shop, would the result be a mixture, a compromise, or maybe something tottaly unexpected(as in bad)?

Re: Combining the best of two pickups...

It's going to be different from either one of the pickups you started with.

Good or bad really depends on who you ask.

Re: Combining the best of two pickups...

Hybrid pickups are a good way to go, where you combine coils from 2 different pickups, such as the 59 and Custom with an A5 or A2 magnet.

Or, asking for an existing model to be wound slightly hotter or weaker.....or using a Dun-aged magnet instead of fully charged magnet.

Before ordering one, ask about your choice on here, and see what the pickup fanatics have to say about it. Also realize that SD makes so many pickups that you may not need a CS version....just choose the right one, and pay $80 instead of $160.

Here's four that I've made. I love 'em. Nice clean, clear, articulate tone, but each is slightly different. They are all complex and have good "air". Kinda like an Antiquity.

I was thinking of that too.

Lets say:
Can the Custom Shop make a pickup by a sound sample you will send and some description and details?
