Combo Amp choice VS

Re: Combo Amp choice VS

What solid state can you suggest than? I mean good Solid State amp. That won't sound like crap what it is on high volume or all of them like that?
That was my point. What JRSOLDA was saying isn't true.

The 6505 combo is fantastic for metal if you're looking to go tube. Also, the Bugera 6260 and 6262 since they're based on the 5150/6505 design.

The Randall combo I mentioned earlier in the thread would work fantastically for you, too.

Re: Combo Amp choice VS

Found Randall RG8040 and Randall RG80 in German store online. (But I couldn't find Marshall Valvestate) How are they? Compared to the Peavey combo? Should the speaker be swaped like in the Peavey combo??

I actually don't have any issues with the Sheffield 1200 in the Peavey 6505 combo. It's a different speaker than the Sheffield 1290s I have in my 412MS, but they sound good to me.

Valvestates will only be found used as Marshall discontinued them a bit ago.

I agree to a point. If you're looking for mainly a combo solid state than the randall or the vypr 100 will do just fine for you. What I pointed out earlier about solid state amps is true unless you buy like a $1,000 solid state amp. The is the breakdown...solid states sound better at lower practice volumes than tube amps. Tube amps wont lose any tone when you crank them to full volume. FACT. Believe whoever you want here. But until you try them out yourself you will never know. right?

Wait..you were just arguing with me...and now you're recommending a tube amp? HAHAHAHA. I love the Irony!

I wasn't arguing against tube amps. I was saying that you were wrong about solid state amps.

I think there are amps of both types that sound fantastic and amps of both types that sound like trash like trash. LOL

Read what I say and not what you think I say. Life will be easier that way. I don't believe in stereotypes and preconceived notions, so don't read any or that into my posts.

Also, my current gigging rig, as I believe I said in this thread, is a Bugera 1960 Infinium loaded with JJ 6CA7s into a Jet City Jettenuator into either a Jet City JCA24S or a Peavey 412MS.

Alright, alright Tu'shea. But I'm not against solid state amps by any means. I use solid state as a practice amp and I love it. But I have to ask how is the Bugera holding up for you? Do you like it? I almost bought a Bugera a couple weeks ago but the recent reliability issues I've heard from dozens of people scared me into not buying one...

I've spent a great amount of time diming all the controls and running it into a Jet City Jettenuator. Sometimes I'll run the bright channel at 7-8 and dump the bass out, but only to add some edge. With my band I run it almost clean and use pedals for dirt.

Re: Combo Amp choice VS

I've had my 333XL Infinium for 2 1/2 years and it's never had the slightest problem. It's been gigged a lot & dimed often enough (bleeding eardrums/miserable neighbours lol) & still runs on the original tubes. I think most stuff you hear about their reliability issues is just bull**** these days. I know quite a few guys who bought 6260's way before I got mine and they're all still working fine lol. A guy who bought a 333XL for his (busy) studio when I bought mine is still running his on his original set of tubes as well and it's seen a lot of action. Frankly, I've never personally known anyone who experienced a problem with their Bugera...and there are plenty around.

Right on, I know a couple people who bought a 333 and they do the same thing...run it clean while using pedals to get their gain.

Yea haha, that was my thought too is that people are continuing to buy them. I know 2 people that have had to send their Bugera Trirec and their 6262 (infinium models) back twice for powertubes and fuses blowing out. That and the channels not switching. But on the other hand a buddy of mine has had his 333XL Infinium for about 2 years, never had a problem with it but told me to keep shopping because theres "better" out there for the money. So I just ended up buying a 5150 III lol. Someday I'll probably take a change and buy one though

Re: Combo Amp choice VS

..haha..better? maybe..(for an extra grand or two) but for the money? ...I doubt it :)

actually..**** the money..it's a fantastic sounding amp. Period :D

Just remember... You sell MILLIONS of something and some of them are going to have a problem. Simple statistics. I've even seen Peaveys break down. I still think they're practically indestructible.

Re: Combo Amp choice VS

Maybe if I hold buying amp I can save some money, and buy smth better.
What do you think about EVH 5150 III 1x12?
I know that Peavey 6505 used to be 5150 and all Edie Van Halen thing blah blah blah.
If it is the same as 6505 why is more expensive? Peavey 6505 = 600 euros + speaker swap to Celestion Vintage 30 135 Euros. 735. Still cheaper.
In which way the EVH is better? Is it worth buying it? Or it is just a paying for the brand?
