I have a 15 watt PEavey Rage 158 that's sitting around so i thought i'd like to modify it. So does anybody know of any mods i could do or a site that has this sort of thing on it? BTW im talking about doing electronics mods not cosmetic changes.

In general Solid state amps don't have many mod options.

Re: Combo Amp Mods

You can change the clip section, change OP-Amps to some with same connections on the legs, change the cap values and resistor value, Solid state are just as mod able as tubes;)
Pop open the amp and take a look.

Re: Combo Amp Mods

What would change the sound more? lowering some resistance in in resistors or swapping out some capacitators?

Re: Combo Amp Mods

While it is true that someone could do some mods to this amp, if you have little or no experience in this sort of thing, I would not recommend trying it yourself. There aren't a whole lot of mods for Peaveys out there (except the Classic stuff), schematics are a little hard to come by, working with modern PCB construction requires a light touch, and you might just electrocute yourself.

You can.

Some solid state systems retain some juice, enough to kill you actually.

You need to power down while holding a chord I believe, to make sure it drains.
Have someone else chime in tho.

Re: Combo Amp Mods

IMO, the only mod you should seriously consider is perhaps installing a great speaker. What size speaker is in your amp now?

A great speaker can make a dramatic improvement in tone.

Nice thing about a replacement speaker is if you decide to sell the amp you can put the old speaker back in and keep the replacement for another amp.

Re: Combo Amp Mods

its only an 8'' speaker soi'd imagine it would benefiet from a more bassy speaker. but i was just trying to gain some electronics experience for school. i'm thinking that if i increased the resistance a bit in the preamp stage, I could get rid of a bit of treble and get a smoother sound out of it.

Re: Combo Amp Mods

just not worth it in my opinion. I find it much more difficult to work with PCB stuff
