Combo + external cab ?

In my search of a good head and 2x12 cab, I finally came across a good deal on a H&K Duotone combo (a 1x12"), wich sounds very very good and has the features i need.

I'm gonna keep it, but i'm also looking on adding a external cab, for added punch and spread. The thing is I'm a total idiot when it comes to matching impedances. I've tried the search forum, but didn't quite get the info I'm looking.

So basically, can I connect the Duotone combo (50watts, 1 single Celestion Vintage 30 and, according to te website: 1x 4 Ohms, 2x 8 Ohms in series to internal Speaker outs:

To a 2x12 cab like this one:

8 Ohms mono, 2 x 16 Ohms stereo?

And if I can, how do I do it?

Sorry if it's been asked a million times before, feel free to redirect me to other threads!:smokin:

Re: Combo + external cab ?

if you want a really punchy and bassy cab look at the genz benz 2x12 g-flex. Its ported to the front so you get all the goodness.

look into avatar cabs too, or used other compay made cads like engl, bogner and mesa.

Yeah, I got my eye on the ENGL one, I think I can get it for a good deal. I wanna be totally certain if I can use it with the Duotone though, and how

Yes, its an 8ohm cab. Just plug it into the 8ohm out on your amp. for stereo you need two amps, you cant use on amp plugged into both inputs for stereo or it can blow

Thank you Brit84, that's the info I was looking for. The single speaker on the combo is pluged into the 16 ohm out, so I'll just get a cable and plug the cab on the 8ohm.

With the 8ohm plugged, I can safely try it with and without the internal speaker right? Just for more options...

You should be just fine as long as at least one or the other is plugged in. Looks like a nice set of options for speaker outs. You should be able to use any cab you come across.

2x 8 Ohms in series

what? in series? that'd give 16 for both outputs and the seperate impedance is 4 ohm..

you mean 2x8 parrallel right?

this amp will then be a 4 ohm minimum impedance, so you can add any cab matching the same impedance as long as you do not cross the minimum. not shure about the wiring inside, though

Actually no; acording to the offciial website:
http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/products.php?mode=tech&id=3

Speaker Outputs:
1x 4 Ohms,
2x 8 Ohms in series to internal Speaker :dunno:

I don't really know what that means, can anyone shed any light?
