Comon grounding question: switches...

On my Charvel model 4, all the miniswitches were connected to each other's chassis, but not grounded to the bridge. I added another to wire the bridge FullShred as series/split/parrallel and the top left lug is connected to the chassis but not grounded back to the bridge. I get a little buzz when I touch the switch in this position.

On the model 1a I installed a SPDT 2 way on/on and the chassis is not grounded, and it poses no problem.

So... how does this work? Should I ground the switches chassis' back to the bridge just like everything else? How about on the model 1a?

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

the model 4 should have a brass plate for cavity grounding that´s connected to the central ground... the central ground should be connected to the bridge anyway already.

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

Yep it does have that, and I use it, but the chassis of the miniswitches aren't connected to it.

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

Look again at how the miniswitches are made... the metal casing goes around to the top, and by contact to the plate the switch chassis grounds itself ;)

At least that´s the way the stock J/C Switches are... you may have different ones....

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

Oh... I may have misunderstood what you said. The miniswitches are not connected to anything but themselves. There's no 'plate' under them. There's just a little tongue of metal screwed to one of the walls, I thought that was what you meant.

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

?? not too suire what you mean, can you snap a pic???

But either way, the switch chassis´ should be grounded ;)

There ya go :)

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

I'd say you may have a ground loop problem. Take off the wires going between the chassiseses (I'll have to look that spelling up later :D) of the switches and see if that helps.

Re: Comon grounding question: switches...

It looks like you have conductive paint in the cavity so you don't need to worry about grounding the switch chassis.
