I don't think the C5 and 498T sound much alike. The C5 is mid-scooped, the 498T has a sharp upper mid spike. C5 cleans up nicer when rolled off, but the 498T cuts through a mix better. Which one I'd prefer would depend heavily on the guitar's natural tone.

upper mid spike like a JB but I thikn can be smoother than a JB. A 300k pot or better caps with use of the tone control can solve this. In a band mix, it slices and dices...where it matters.
A lot of thikgs we hear as harsh are lost in the mix.
Many times I'll have the tone rolled back but in the band mix, I have to roll up.

No it's not. The 500T is wound hotter and it uses 2 to 3 magnets instead of the usual one.

I was thinking, a lot of guys like 300k bridge pots. I actually like them at times as well. However, rolling the tone pot back also rolls back mids, which is not good. So, if you start with a 300k tone pot, are you also starting with less mids? Interesting.
I am also thikning of grabbing a ToneStyler tone pot! My one concern with that thing is....why not just set your amp up with less highs to begin with and keeop the guitar with standard pots. I have to think if I would need all those tone settings. Could come in handy.
