I love the Custom and have it in all three of my guitars. However, after listening to some of the samples it seems maybe I should give the Distortion a try. What are you thoughts between the two. I'm looking for a Metallica (Kill 'Em All-Master Of Puppets)/Megadeth (Peace Sells-Rust In Peace) type sound. If I'm not hitting completely with the Custom I come damn close. To my ears I only hear subtle differences with the sound clips. I'm not sure which one I like more and want some feedback so...

Re: Comparison: Custom vs. Distortion

Hetfield had Duncan's Invader in his explorer guitar for MOP.

between the Custom & the Distortion, the former has more bass. the Distortion has lots of growling lower midrange for lots of metal-type crunch. i own both.

Re: Comparison: Custom vs. Distortion

my pick would be the Distortion, ive never really liked the Custom all taht much tho so i might be a bit biased, but the tone of that suits you

Re: Comparison: Custom vs. Distortion

I don't hear many lower mids in the Distortion at all....I hear more upper mids if anything than the Custom.

Re: Comparison: Custom vs. Distortion

Tough choice, as they're two of my favorites. I honestly can't say that I prefer one to the other for any reason, and either one can get me where I need to be.

Having said that, if you've never tried a Distortion, you really should.

Re: Comparison: Custom vs. Distortion

The custom have more dynamics and then is a bit more agressive as the distortion is much thicker with all the mids and the stronger magnet but then it have less pick attack .
