Complain

Re: Complain

Hi,
I put a Trembucker in a Gibson ring some time ago, and I had to file both sides of the ring end. About 2 mm or so. The length needed a touch of filing, but not much.
I also used that same Trembucker in my precut, pre hole drilled pickgaurd. Same filing as the Gibson ring. However, the holes as you all know, did not line up. To me, no big deal. The p'up leg screws went in at a slight angle, leaving a little gap on the side of the screw head. Only see it if you looked, so to me, even an old OCD guy, was cool with it.
**SPY** - this will work for your outer non threaded (now wrongly threaded) outside holes. I have done it at least 10 times. I put a piece of heavy cardboard, cut to fit the small area, stuck my legs screw through it, and super glued the whole thing on the metal - removing the screw but now with a hole in the heavy cardboard. I then filled that whole piece of cardboard with more super glue, so that the hole almost glued shut. When it was good and hard, dry, I screwed the leg screw through it, it didn't thread without a fight, so it held this particular pickup (Trembucker) for as long as a year. I know many are rolling their eyes, but I swear on my Mothers soul and eyes that this worked, as need is the mother of invention. I did add a 3rd or 4th layer on the cardboard and slowly turned the screw so it didn't freeze.
If ever you need to try it, it works. I will not go into the project I needed to use this technique, as this is long enough, but it CAN BE DONE, I did it many times. Work on worn out threads too.

Re: Complain

Gentlemen thanks a lot, the pickup is not broken, I managed to install it but will have the opportunity to test extensively tomorrow. Not that anybody needs my opinion on Pearly Gates, but I will share my feelings about it to show my appreciation of your efforts to help. I feel like an ass to tell this is almost my first Seymour Duncan pickup - beside a short unhappy affair with lil' 59 - and I've been hanging around here quite a while.

Re: Complain

I encountered similar problem when attempting to install a TB-14 into my Mex Strat.

One of the screwholes in trembucker actually lined up with one in the pickguard, and I just stuck in another screw to cover the other vacant slot.

As for the pickup slot on the pickguard that was too small, I actually had to enlarge it a bit using a sandpaper. No biggie.

But seriously, no hacking tools required. ;)

Re: Complain

Sorry to divert from your discussions, it took me a few days to appreciate, but the Pearly Gates strat is my best sounding guitar at this time. I will be asking around about custom shop PG and High Voltage sets for my Les Paul soon, because I now just have to. Also sorry for derailing the thread. Cheers!
