Completed songwriting demo -- Galactic Entropy

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
The past few week's recording efforts have come to fruition in a new songwriting demo, Galactic Entropy. Drums will be replaced with live drums and vocals will be added in the coming months, but the instrumentation and basic balance is just about there.

What you hear as a 'guitar lead' in Sections II and V are, in fact, guide lines for the vocals. The only actual guitar solo is in Section V.

Instrumentation:

Drums, Logic Drummer
Synths and samples Roland JV-1080 w expansion cards; E-Mu Classic Keys, Dave Smith MOPHO
Step Sequencer, Arturia Beatstep
Guitars, Fender '72 Tele thinline resissue; Gibson SG R-1
Effects pedals, JColoccia Horus; Bogner Harlow; MXR script Phase, micro flange, distortion+; Xotic BB Preamp; Greer Sweetback Driver; Multiplex echo
Microphone &cet, sE Electronics Magneto; Weber alnico speaker; Randall iso cab; SSL Alpha Channel; strymon DECO
Bass, Squire Bronco w StewMac P bass pickups; Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone; Golden Age Pre-73; Waves CLA Bass

You have to be one of the most prolific song-writers out there :lmao:

Nice and atmospheric/mellow at the start and then that cool bass line kicks in! Gets pretty heavy for a while too later on.. Love the R2D2 synth @ 5:42 I'm always working stuff like that into my solo's as well haha..

Ha! I get a lot of that!

Man, I love electronics blips and whirs ... just great fun. This piece was very challenging for a number of reasons.
Thanks for listening!

Wow, you write on another level! Very cool right when it kicks in, I was trying to figure out if it was a bass line or some kind of samples I was digging on.

Thanks so much for listening -- and kudos on your endurance, this song is long!!
The breakdown of sounds is like this:
All repeating analog synths are the MOPHO with sequences written on the Beatstep.
Sampled instruments: anything orchestral, the pads/synth brass/pwm synths, piano, organ, and choir sounds.

After the first chord progression in Section I, when the drums kick in, there is a lot going on. The stereo guitar and orchestral pads form the background. The drive and melodic elements are from the MOPHO (I think there are 4 of them stacked there) and bass guitar (straight down the center of the mix).

Re: Completed songwriting demo -- Galactic Entropy

Wow, I'd get lost mixing all that stuff, or at least screw up the mix pretty good

Re: Completed songwriting demo -- Galactic Entropy

Yes, this one is pretty intense -- 56 synth tracks, 40+ guitar tracks, have not even reamped the bass yet, and no drums or vox -- will definitely be a serious challenge to mix ... and I'm thinking about mixing this one in analog!! :)
