composite woods

Re: composite woods

^ If the thing makes music, why the hell not?

Exactly !!!

BE DIFFERANT - BE PART OF THE VERY SMAL EXCLUSIVE CLUB (for now, untill it becomes hip)

We have several options allready.

* Guitar Kits USA make fiberglass kits (only the neck is wood)

* Swing Guitars use, what they call Vibra-cell for their bodies.

* Flaxwood, using spruce fibre and a polymer binding agent.

* Aristides uses Arium (glass pearls & natural resin only) to mould their bodies.

* Mada guitars use 100% hemp fibre only.

* Simon Lee guitars uses recycled materials (things like plastic pipes & vending machine coffee cups) for their bodies.

I am sure there is more, that i just forgot, but it is a start.

And then there is, what i call, "Minimilism" style guitars that do not use much of any thing !

Re: composite woods

Using woods does not have to mean deforestation.
I own some property that is heavily wooded and have done quite a bit of research into forestry management.
The largest, oldest trees which, coincidentally, are the ones we want for guitars and furniture, are the least productive in the forest. They grow very little and produce less mast/nuts/flowers/seeds for wildlife than smaller, more aggressively growing trees.
Through a combination of precribed burns and removal of the largest and oldest trees, wildlife habitat improves dramatically. Soil conditions improve and more wood is produced.
It neednt be either/or.
