COMPOUND RADIUS NECK QUESTION

Re: COMPOUND RADIUS NECK QUESTION

I have done a fret level on my washburn and it turned out great, but the washburn does not have a compound radius to the finger board. do I do anything different with the charvel since it does have a compound radius?

Re: COMPOUND RADIUS NECK QUESTION

Those pics of your frets tell me all I need to know. You are long overdue for a fret level/crown.

You will need to level in the direction of the compound (which means a slight angle). Other that that, it is the same as any other level/crown.

I have seen guys use a circular motion, or a left/right motion, but there no need to over think it. If you are unsure about your ability to handle this, it is an inexpensive job for a professional and would include a full set up.

Best idea to fix your guitar problem is to purchase a better guitar!

Re: COMPOUND RADIUS NECK QUESTION

looks like your 12th fret has worked its way loose. could be the camera angle. can you take a picture of the frets above the 12th from the playing position? I bet you have some more loose frets.

Re: COMPOUND RADIUS NECK QUESTION

ok well I just finished the fret level crown and polish. she looks brand new. all flat spots gone, all string divets gone, and shes shiny and Purdy. my hands and shoulders are a little sore but its worth it. im still surprised at how little material is lose with a fret level. according to my stewmac calipers my frets were 0.056 before and now there are 0.051. on another topic how much does a re-fret cost? I understand it will differ but can you give me an average?

Re: COMPOUND RADIUS NECK QUESTION

150 is the standard round these parts. That's with a new nut, which you won't need. If you go stainless it's more.

If you pulled off the level/crown, and are happy with how it plays, leave it and love it.

Should you look to refret with SS wire, look to spend $200-$300. That might seem expensive on a sub $1,000 guitar, but you only have to do it once.
