Compressor suggestion for gain sounds

Hi there,
In a month or so I will be getting my first compressor pedal. Since I am new to this type of stompers I don't know what to choose so I need some tips from the experts out there.
I plan to use the pedal with moderate gain, thus I am looking for pedals to get the tones good for legato and tapping (think Allan Holdsworth), and good for approximating Def Leppard's Hysteria era sounds.
Any recommendation? Not looking for boutique stuff, maybe 150 bucks max. Thanx!

Find a used Keeley two knob. Then set it so that you almost can't tell the difference between when it's on and when it's off. Almost.

This is simple...all the compressor you'd ever need...a Vise Grip! I love the blend knob- it keeps the Compressor squishy while still having an attack.
