Compressor that will give me some "bristle," push my amp into OD

ImmortalSix

John Mayer's Mankini
Ineeda compressor that will give me some "bristle," push my amp into OD.

I like that tone that is basically a clean tube tone, but with a compressor to push it into that thick but bristly sparkly drive.

This tone.

I recorded that with a P90 into Line6 GearBox's JC-120 model, with a buttload of compression on the front end. See what I mean about thick, but "bristly"?

Anyways, what compressor pedal is going to get me there? I am thinking a $XX pedal, not a $XXX pedal

Thanks, team!

P.S. Pedal will be pushing a Blackheart BH5, a single-ended, Class A EL84 amp

MXR Dyna Comp.

Most of the $$$ compressors are a variation of the Dyna Comp theme (also known as the Ross compressor). I like the Retro-Sonic version myself.

P.S. I see ya lurkin', Frank --- sorry I'm not ready for that $XXX compressor yet!

I don't know if this qualifies as a $$$$ compressor or not, but the HBE C.P.R compressor has a LOT of output. Not a transparent compressor, by any means, but I think it will do what you're looking for.

I just picked up a BYOC DynaComp clone from a forum bro --- you better have been tellin' me the truth, some_dude!
