I'm willing to spend up to $100. Been looking at some Altec Lansing speakers with a woofer and two desk top speakers that sounded pretty good to me for $49 at Target.

I want to be able to listen to MP3's and also check out what the rest of you guys have been posting over on the Tips and Clips page.

What are you guys using for speakers on your computers?

Lew

What Altec Lansings? I have the MX5021 system, and I am very content with it. No overpowering woofer or something funny fancy stuff..

I have these:

The sub woofer does a great job when listening to music or movies but it doesn't help when you want to do mixing or mastering. It's the reason why most of my sounclick clips are on the bright side. ;)

Re: Computer speakers...what should I get?

I bought my parents a set of the Klipsch 2.1 speakers last year. They love 'em. I love 'em too... sound great! Better then anything else out there... I've got a Altec Lansing 2.1 set but there's just no comparison... Not even close.

can't really go wrong with a pair of Logitechs! I've got a pair of Logitech Z4s (2.1 stereo, great sound, love em)

Definitely look into at least getting a set with a sub, the subwoofer can make a big difference.

heres the link to the cnet review of the Z4s (you can get it for $80-100 no prob)

the subs pretty compact, good sound tho. theres a dial that comes with it for volume, bass level, etc and there is an MP3 input jack and headphone jack

highly recommend! my friend also has a 4.1 logitech system that is at least 5 years old and has never let him down:beerchug:

Re: Computer speakers...what should I get?

I have some JBL Pro's I found at a garage sale for $10. I was so happy when I came home and heard them.

Recently, I accidentally let a cigarette cherry touch the cloth and messed one up, so I'm thinking of doing something fun and covering one with Marshall grillcloth and the other one with Fender cloth, then cutting some logos out of a guitar mag and glueing them on.

You wouldn't happen to have a 1 foot square of Fender cloth, would you?

I would. What's your address Joe? You can just have it. Lew

Re: Computer speakers...what should I get?

Berhinger Truths are actually quite nice for the money, little over $100 but you'd really be advised to spend a bit more than that.

I've also got a pair of Mackie HR824 that I used for mastering and they are still probably the best thing going, but the Truth's still sound very nice for about 1/5th the money

I'm afraid all that $100 is going to buy you is some good speaker for playing computer games or watching surrouind sound movies.

They are not designed to be neutral but rather to sound good with hyped up bass.

Mix your tracks on those and it will not translate well at all to other systems. You want an accurate system so that you can know exactly what your tone sounds like and then how it will transfer to others systems

I've read good reviews of that set. I've heard the Altec VS4121 set at Target and liked them for $49. Target has a set of the VS4221's for $79. The VS4121's get very good reviews on the PC online review sites I've visited. For $49. they might might be hard to beat. I kind of want to get something quickly. Thanks! Lew

Re: Computer speakers...what should I get?

When I got my laptop, I started searching for high-end monitor-types of speakers to hook my computer up to, since I like how my bookshelf stereo system has such an even frequency response. So instead, I just went to Best Buy and bought a cable with a 1/8" plug on one end, and a pair of RCA-type connectors on the other end. Now I can plug my laptop into anyone's stereo, TV, or home theater receiver. I also bought an S-video cable, so the pair comes in really handy when watching NetFlix or YouTube on my computer. I get to hook up to my home theater receiver, so I get a full screen and good sound quality. But mostly, I have it hooked up to my bookshelf system when listening to iTunes in my bedroom.

Sounds like a good bang for the buck there. Either way you will definitely be up and running and able to hear the stuff in the Tips and Clips section. :)

Thats what I do. I have a pretty decent seperates hi fi system, I just plug from mini jack to one of the aux RCA inputs on my hi fi. None of that exaggerated sub-woofer bass that way.

Re: Computer speakers...what should I get?

I am really considering running my Computer into my home stereo/theater system. 5.1 channels of goodness. It shouldnt be too hard to do at all.

Re: Computer speakers...what should I get?

I do one of two things, depending on which room the laptop is in. I run it through my Aiwa surround via an rca to 1/8" adapter. Or Altec Lansing (I forget the model, its older) computer speakers, one sub, two desktop speakers.. Really, I've been impressed with all altec lansing
