Good job on the singing! This is definitely the best sounding clip on your page from a production standpoint. Did you use that mic to record guitars as well, or are they direct?

Condenser mic into Garageband for iOS is definitely superior to all previous recording systems. The advantage of this is that it makes everything you do sound clearer. The disadvantage is that every slightest imperfection is exposed.

The built-in echo feature on the microphone is to flatter nervous karaoke singers. Switch it off. If/when you need delay, add this track by track in Garageband.

The guitar sounds like Nathan's pedalboard through Behringer solid state amplifier through microphone. Exploiting Garageband's built-in amp modelling would involve the use of an audio/iOS interface device.

Good job on the singing!

Clear sound. Confident delivery. Little or no adherence to the original melody.

You're getting better. Still needs work, but it seems like you're trying. First, the bass and drums are way too far back in the mix. Second, vocals aren't even close to being in key - you can get away with that to certain audiences on certain styles of music - this song being a bit of an example, but it'll always sound better to be in key, and anyone with even a mild sense of pitch will appreciate it.

Lol, I actually hadn't heard the original, so I had no reference point when I typed that. I just listened and you're 100% correct! Oops :lmao:

Well, I am a terrible singer but I thought I'd give it a shot, plus I wanted the echo anyway, since the echo adds to that feeling of the 50's.

Re: Condenser mic bought from Ebay test (Clip inside

isn't this just a 'nice' way of telling someone he can't sing?

More a case of somebody not remembering the melody.

It is a strain but I can manage to be diplomatic some of the time.

Yeah, that's what really made Rocket 88. The echo.

I was particularly impressed by the rhythm guitar keeping the timing very steady.

Where? :scratchch

Re: Condenser mic bought from Ebay test (Clip inside

I have been storing a little every year during Daylight Saving Time, and I keep it in a plastic storage box in my closet. I only break it out if I have to read something in the dark while the lights are not working or if I need a little light to find the flashlight.

Sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made. ;)

Actually, my timing has gotten bad over the years, hopefully from lack of practice and not directly from the years themselves. I bought a metrognome in an effort to improve, but as fate would have it, it ran off to hide in a cave under an overpass just south of downtown Fort Worth.

I can keep time. :D

You're doing OK, man. I didn't even start playing guitar until I was 18 unless you count the half year before that when I played melodies on one string. Now I'm using all the strings and sometimes more than one at a time.
