confused on strat pups after reding threads

hi, I'm new to for forum and to strats (les Paul guy) I have a HSS strat with a JB bridge and 2 vintage rails wired in series with 500k vol pot. My original thought was to have a bucker in bridge and a nice straty sound for mid and neck. But the neck vr is not doing it for me on high gain for leads (Marshall DSL) I have aksed the forum for advice and thank everyone who has replied. Because of the tone I was looking for SC's have been suggested. I really don't want to deal with hum so I think I "m going with a rail for neck pos. The question is hot or cool Rail. because I've read a bunch of threads on rails,pots,resisters its getting confusing. This is what I'm thinking of doing

Bridge JB
Mid Vintage Rail in series
Neck hot or cool rail ? maybe split with switch if adviseable ?
500K vol pot
Bypass tone controls ? never use um, would this be a good or bad thing to do

how would you change my theory THANKS for any suggestions

I actually have a USA Strat loaded with a JB/Hotrails neck, one volume and no tone controls. The Hotrails in the neck is really thick and does not sound like a single coil at all. If you are looking for the strat sound without hum you may want some sort of Strat pickup that is stacked.

if you want single coil sound but no hum, look at the duncan stack plus line of pups.

i have the classic stack plus and they sound great. very close to a early 60's strat tone. to match up with humbuckers i might step up to the vintage hot or the custom stack

If you're using it as a rock guitar and just want it to sound like an HSH guitar, go with the Hot Rails neck. You can always add a switch to split it, making it sweeter for clean rhythm.
