I listed them in that order because that would be the best way to record with the drum machine. First capture MIDI data for your drum pattern on the computer. Edit it if you wish, then have the computer play the pattern back to your drum machine which would be acting as a sound module at that point. This way your recording software makes sure that its notion of beat and the drum machine are perfectly in sync. It saves a ton of headaches later.
