Considering a Downsizing of Sorts

I've never been one to travel lightly when it came to musical gear. Unloading my rig (two guitars, head, 2x12 cab, pedalboard, and case of cables/pedals/accesories) from my car takes four trips of lugging heavy stuff. I keep my equipment at my home where I keep it to practice and record. However, I practice at least a few times a week and I'm looking for any way to keep stuff in separate places to minimize unnecessary travel wear on both equipment and myself. I've already lined up another cabinet that I'll be purchasing tomorrow, so I can have one at home and one at my practice space.

Now I'm considering my pedalboard. For those that haven't seen it (see it here), it's quite a large assortment for my band that plays almost exclusively original music. I've recently come to the conclusion that I could put all the pedals I need for this band on a Pedaltrain nano and still have enough sonic ammunition to decimate colons from remote tropical locations. I could then keep my larger pedalboard at home and use it for recording or take to jams with other people, which is an attractive option as I'm looking at starting a side project with my bassist.

I guess what it comes down to is this: Am I off my rocker for not wanting to transport my rig all the time?

Re: Considering a Downsizing of Sorts

I made that decision about 2 years ago. Nano for rehearsals and gigs, big PT at home for recording. I can fit one of everything (modulation, echo, boost, fuzz, overdrive) less a tuner.

Re: Considering a Downsizing of Sorts

I gig with 2 amps and at least 3 guitars...sometimes up to 5 guitars plus a lap steel so I trim stuff down anywhere I can!

I have a big board that I do love and sometimes I do take it with me but most often I take a Pedaltrain Mini with a few things on it then just stick a Fuzz Face and a wah in front of it...works for me!

Re: Considering a Downsizing of Sorts

I have noticed when playing live or even practicing all I use is my wah and a hint of delay. I had 6 other pedals on there and while I use them at home for dorking around, I found that it was mostly to look cool lol. So now I have a piece of plywood wity my power supply, tuner, overdrive, delay and a phase 90 for good measure and the wah is on the floor.

All other pedals are for fun and throwing money in an endless pit.

Re: Considering a Downsizing of Sorts

Ditch the fuzz pedals and you'll be good... well, actually just decide on one and ditch the others.

Lose the Timmy too.
