Converting Fender strat sss to hss

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

Yes, if I understand your question. Red and white go together and are taped/insulated. Black goes to the switch. Green and bare go to ground.

If you want to be able to split your bridge pup you will need a push/pull switch or a super Strat 5 way.

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

In order for it to work with the Fender single-coils, swap the black and green wires. If you don't, position 2 will be out of phase making it sound very thin.

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

Alright I installed it with the black and green wire switched, all sounds fine except in position 4 with my mid and bridge is selected. It sounds a little off softer and hollow. All other positions sound great. If it is out of phase will the mid pickup still sound ok by it self?

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

Yes. Out of phase only occurs when a pup is in combination with at least one other pup.

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

Try it with the black and green wired in their traditional method (black = hot, green = ground). Fender may have changed things on recent Strats in regards to their pickup polarity.

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

My neck pick up is south my mid pick up is north when I hold a compass to it. The humbucker top is north the bottom adjustable pegs are south. If this helps.

My Duncan Humbucker wires up normally (black to hot) with my Fender Fat 50's. What volume and tone pots are you using? 500K, 300k, or 250K?

It needs to split to the adjustable poles, and putting black to ground and green to hot should do that. Unless I'm having a brain fart. Highly possible on a Friday afternoon. :)

Re: Converting Fender strat sss to hss

250 volume 250 mid volume 500 2nd volume which is wired for bridge control. I have the humbucker split with a off on toggle just like the Duncan site shows the red and white together on one poll and ground below it. The guitar is sounding funky either way the black an green wire are swapped. It has almost a hollow tremlo sound ever sense the humbucker was installed especially in the neck pick up. Any thoughts?
