So this is my Stage 1000! I bought this amp off some little rock head kid about 3 & 1/2 years ago. I'm not making fun of him, well maybe a little but he started @ $300 & we settled on $50? He probably would have taken $10! Anyway, I bought it because it was cheap & I knew for a fact it wasn't stolen, I know his family & I guess his mother bought it for him for his birthday or something? I felt bad but he was really adamant about selling it.
It's not a bad amp, but it's not a good one either? It's sorta the precursor to the Mustangs. A lot of digital effects and tone shaping but really it just sits on the floor taking up space because I've got much better amps & I always gravitate towards them. I've even got much better S.S. Fender amps so I'm thinking I might want to turn it into a cabinet...
I don't think I'm going to bother removing the chassis and this one is one of the very first Fender combo amps to have Digital Verb so there's no tank to wobble around either. Right now it's got a big old 8 Ohm Celestion G12T-100 speaker in it but I was thinking of replacing it with a Vintage 30 or a Greenback, something along those lines? I just picked up a little 5W head & chances are this will end up being the cabinet for that head eventually.
So I guess my question is, how hard is it to do all this? I wouldn't think it's going to be all that hard & I've actually used that amp as a cabinet before but I did it by useing a female/female jack on the end of the speaker cable, I'm looking to do something a little more permanent now. I'd like to rig up something simple with some wood or fiberglass and an actual speaker cabinet jack, either that or route out a hole for the jack someplace in back but I'm not sure that's even possible & if it is its going to be a PIA? I'm guessing the piece of wood thing is going to be the easiest way of going about it? I'd appreciate any advice on the subject....
