Elderly has a couple cheap used guitars that're realy tempting for me right now. This is one that made me stop, but I really can't buy it.

GIBSON THE PAUL (1998)
condition abbreviations VGC+, latter day version of this Econo Paul, wine red finish, thin mahogany body (belly contour on back), set mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, dot inlays, 22 frets, 2 (exposed coils) humbucking pickups, stop bar tailpiece, tune-o-matic bridge, vintage style tuners, good workhorse, 1-11/16" nut, 24-3/4" scale, with OHSC (SN:92258560)
30U-14227 .. $550.00

Reminds me a little of the '98 Les Paul Junior Special using right now.

The '70s Walnut version of "The Paul" had the switch in the control cavity, which was probablty a lot easier to wire up, but I like how they put it over the neck PU in this recent version.

For $550 w/HSC, I kind of want to buy it.

I'd get a real The Paul

Oh wait I have one. :approve: Grab this one PG. Toggle location is only aesthetic anyway huh?

Not bad. Probably has more market value too.

Elderly also has a mid '90s USA Hamer Studio, for a few uhndred more:

HMMMM non original pickups and bridge on that one. Might be a good player though.

Yeah, they can't be the original pickups. I think Hamer stopped using DiMarzios years befor that.

I don't know what bridge they would have used. I thought Hamer had some sort of Tunamatic, and a stop tailpiece by the mid '90s.

Looking at some of the finished auctions for Hamer Studios that actually sold, (they usually had some changes, whether they got bids or not) that's probably a somewhat normal price.

Re: Cool Econo Les Paul at Elderly

I used one of those The Pauls for a while. The body is thinner than a normal LP and it's all mahogany, no maple cap. It's like having a carved top SG. They're plenty cool guitars. I'd buy one again.

Re: Cool Econo Les Paul at Elderly

I coulda had a red "The Paul" when I got my Epi LP custom, the Gibson was an extra 100 but I thought the Epi was waaaay better.

Re: Cool Econo Les Paul at Elderly

On those Hamer used a wraparound with only the G and B adjustable as one unit. It was a Wilkerson bridge. Hamer usually put 59's or a 59/JB combo in those too.

Re: Cool Econo Les Paul at Elderly

They might have stopped making the ones with no A/D string adjustment. I don't see Stewmac carrying it, but they don't have everything.

Re: Cool Econo Les Paul at Elderly

oh wow I totally had one of these

...yeah, contours at the back, no maple cap.

A decent guitar for what it was but it wound up not being my thing :laugh2:

Sold for about the price on elderly on ebay.

the "none blacker" look was kind of cool for a while though.

Re: Cool Econo Les Paul at Elderly

I think I like your black one better. Reminds me more of my Junior/Special which turned back into my main guitar.
