Cool effects?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows something about effects?
I'm basicly a noob when it comes to effects but I like to make some weird (industrial) noises with my guitar to expand my options. Especially cool for intro's at gigs.
Would you recommend a multi-fx pedal? Fx-moddeler pedal?

Re: Cool effects?

Hmmm
You might wanna check out the signature pedal from that guy in Disturbed. Dan Donnegan is his name???
It has a lot of weird effects on it.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Re: Cool effects?

If you wanted to go down the effects route in multi pedal form I'd go (or at least try) the Boss GT-6 ..Great pedal and as tons upon tons of effects, amps modlers, od's , everything (although not that you'd need an amp moddler with the Bogner of yours :laugh2: ) lots of crazy weird possibilites too,..And there is alot of weird stuff that could help you get cool sounds for opening gigs and whatnot too..

And i think the guy from disturbed's pedal is a digitech to help you out, called "the weapon" i believe

Re: Cool effects?

Both the GT-6 and the Magic stomp are cool, but he mentioned music specifically for Industrial type sounds, and that was the 1st thing I could think off that was specifically made for that kind of music.

Re: Cool effects?

Ok thanks Stevo.
I'm open to any suggestion, I'm not looking at multi fx pedals nessicarely. Single effects can be cool too. Maybe a Delay?

I checked the Digitech signature pedal. That's one expensive toy! I'm not shure that's what I want (I'm not a big Disturbed fan) Maybe Ishould try it somewhere?

How about the Line 6 products? Those any good?

The MS does have some funky patches (many with sample MP3s):
  • DiveDown
  • Bats
  • MachineGun
  • Traktor
  • Mob
  • SpaceGun
  • RingMod
It just happens to be good at traditional multiFX stuff, too.

Re: Cool effects?

I don't know how far down you tune, but the Boss OC-3 Octave pedal is pretty cool.
The OC-3 is great for cooking up fat or doubled sounding riffs!

Also, a delay combinded with a phaser makes for sweet sounds.

Re: Cool effects?

I agree with the Digitech SPace Station, also the Line6 Filter Mod. Don't discount a Guitar Synth as well, you can trigger any sound in the world that way.

Re: Cool effects?

I'm not a big fan of effects! Imo there are much ways to make noise without any effects ;)
But A Wah is very cool! A Flanger is cool for Intros.
A Delay or Chorus cool for clean intros.

Re: Cool effects?

fuzz pedal + harmonics + whammy = :burnout:

failing that, delay and slide can always be interesting

just google tom morello's guitar stuff, cool intros ahoy

Re: Cool effects?

i got the Boss phase shifter recently. its mad, you can get lazer noises, bubble noises, robot noises, and even some normal phaser sweeps!

Re: Cool effects?

Ok, my take on this...

dont go for multi-fx or fx modeler...

Choose the good old bunch of boxes! For funny efx, you need a phaser and/or Chorus, and the Guyatone MD-2 Digital Delay <-- this one is scary, with knobs turned all the way up, it falls into self-oscillation and then you can start fiddling with the speed knobs to downpitch the oscillation and crank it again to max... VERY STRANGE AND FUNNY! and cost only 40$. I'm using it in Astronomy Domine to get some very silly space sounds...

Re: Cool effects?

Big money.... but the all-analog, very trippy, with endless possibilities, would be the Mooger Fooger Ring Modulator. It will give you some of those Radiohead sounds.

Re: Cool effects?

GD son! only 23 and you've got an Ecstasy 101B! niiiice... how'd you manage to afford THAT one? lol I love those things and I really want one.

My take on it... individual pedals are cool sounding but its a hassle hooking up more than 6-7 of them... especially if you're using an fx loop in the amp. If you want losta stuff I'd recommend getting a GT6 or something like that. If you just want a few effects I'd find out which ones produce the sounds you like and then just use those.

If i was in an industrial-style band I'd probably use an OD-20 to get several different od/ds types, my usual delay pedal, and octaver, a whammy, an SBY-3 bass synth boss pedal (they sound great with guitars!) and a flanger or something. Anything to make a really twisted sound.

Go experiment!

This one seems most in-tree-ging

Re: Cool effects?

Hey all thanks for the suggestions! I think I should go to the guitar store next saturday to try some stuff out. (I'll write your suggestions down and ask if they have it in the store :) )

I really like how Thrice gets their weird noises out of the line 6 pedals on the TAITA album. Sounded good live too. Too bad the line 6 pedals cost so much...
