Re: Cool Flying V Story

Best story I've read in a long time. I'm sitting about a mile down the boulevard from Norman's Rare Guitars. I pop in there every once in awhile, talk to the guys, and am always amazed at the time capsules he's got in there. There's nobody who's had more cool guitars and amps go through his hands than Norm. He's the first guy the film industry goes to for movie consulting and rentals, when things have to be 100% era correct.

Re: Cool Flying V Story

You ever hear how much they paid to rent the Back To The Future guitar? They could have bought 10 when it was all said and done. :smack:

I wonder if that Flying V was the instrument on which Norm had his logo created. Interesting that it was instrumental in two guitar shop's legacy it seems. Also very cool about Joe having screen shots of it for a while before even thinking of getting one if I read the story correctly.:cool2:

Re: Cool Flying V Story

Yep, it is original and looks to be in good condition.

Re: Cool Flying V Story

i think total there was 91 made which means only 91 cases. if you have the guitar but not the case then i can see someone paying 30-40k i guess. that is a cool story alright

Re: Cool Flying V Story

Was I the only one that was bothered that he lets roadies and techs mess with it but the 2nd and 3rd generation shop owners where it came from couldn't play it? I'm pretty sure they know guitars and the importance of that guitar, kind of a dick move. Pretty cool story but the ending stunk.

Re: Cool Flying V Story

Maybe they didnt want to play it. says the one lady kept touching it. Id be too afraid to play something with that kind of value. I almost refused to play one of those $20k EVH 5150 replicas once cuz I didnt want to risk anything happening to it.. I did in the end, but... Ive read where Joe is usually pretty cool about that. He thinks they should be appreciated not just glass cased. Had a contest awhile back where 2 winners got to go hang with him, tour his collection and each got a vintage goody from it. They got to play a bunch of stuff.
