Ive owned tube amps and ive owned solid state amps and ive also sized different amps up side by side recently and i know what sounds good to me, and to me the AVT sounded better than the amps he played before it. Ive played AVT amps in the past and have always liked them though never owned one. Im not a marshall pimp in general, far from it, I generally prefer everything but.
Then again, that amp is an AVT250, which has 200 more watts than my AVT50. the 50 watter clips more and lower volumes, making my amp suck much more than that one... I just hate my amp, thats all there is to it :laugh2:

I know that clips, that's just Geoff Whitehorn who is a monster player and could make anything sound good. You can still hear the awfull buzzsaw sound of that amp and it's not smooth at all. I used to think it was a good clip too until I compared it to real tube amp. It still has the same buzzy lack of character that solid state amps have.

Yeah, I've heard that clip, and it is awesome. Made me a Geoff Whitehorn fan pretty quick.

I totally agree with you, if you listen carefully, you can hear that buzzy sound. I think it also important to remember that recordings seldom give you the live dynamics of a real amp, and what it truly sounds like when you are playing next to it.

.RAM?!?! Come on!

And my damn Windows Media Player is glitchy as all hell, so it won't work with that.

Re: Cool Marshall amps demonstration

the AVT sounds good...BUT I I can hear the buzz too..and it's thin...

one other thing I noticed is he is pretty heavy on the effects during that compared to the 800 and DSL...that makes it sound better....

regardless, love the dudes chops...
