Cool rails neck - will it work with a Distortion?

I'm thinking about getting a Cool Rails for the neck on my LTD Lynch guitar. Has anyone tried a CR with a Distortion? It will be used for some soloing but mostly for clean fingerpicked type stuff (think power ballad, lol). If so, what are your impressions, thoughts, etc.?

Thanks,
Mark

That could be an interesting combo. I have a Cool Rails (bridge) in one guitar, and a Distortion (neck) in another. I love them both. A CR combined with a DD would probably sound great. Especially if you could split the DD with the CR.

Dear lord, no! They'll self destruct if put in too close a proximity to one another...

Sorry... it's late, and I'm tired :)

I did in a basswood body guitar and it was the best pickup combo I've ever used.

Yep, got the combo in my HSS. It definately does work well, but theres quite a tonal variation (to me, a good thing).

I had a Distortion/Cool Rails in an old Hamer Californian I sold a little while ago. The two pickups matched up very well. The Cool Rails could go from jazzy clean to bluesy/rock leads to shred solos. I wouldn't say that it did any one thing exceptionally well, but it did everything well. It was definitley a very versatile pickup. For the cleanest of cleans, you might try splitting it or getting used to adjusting volume and tone knobs. For everything else, you won't have much of a problem with it. The Distortion is the best. I can't say enough good things about it.

By the way, I still have a guitar with a Distortion/Cool Rails/Hot Rails set up and that thing is my #1 tone machine. The Cool Rails handles it's duties as a middle pickup as well, matching up nicely with the Distortion and Hot Rails equally.
