Cool Rails/SSL-5/Lil 59'?

Hi everyone!

New poster here, thank you all for the previous and future advice.

This might be a long post, but the tl;dr: working on a mahogany body strat with a maple neck/rosewood fretboard and looking at a cool rails/custom staggered ssl-5/lil 59' pup combo (n/m/b respectively). Any thoughts opinions on this combo?

I usually play Classic rock/blues style (SRV and David Gilmour are a bit of an aim, which is why I'm looking at the ssl-5 besides loving the SD tone sample provided) and would like a little bit of versatility to a clean tone and a good crunch if and when needed. I would like to do a DPDT push/pull for each humbucker to do a series/parallel switch to maintain some strat characteristics, but be able to get the power/output of a humbucker when needed. I tend to play more on the neck pup than I do the bridge or middle, largely because I haven't really found a tone I like in those positions. I have a regular 59' in the neck of an LP style guitar and really like its tone so I figured the bridge might be similar. I know they are almost two completely different pups to begin with, and adding the single coil is another difference.

A concern for me is the phasing. Given this combo, if I did the ssl-5 neck pup in the middle with a lil 59' bridge, would that run them out of phase?
As to the series/parallel humbuckers, if anyone has any experience doing that with these particular pups, would that cut a lot of power to them? Or does that only happen with the coil split?

Any and all advice would be helpful! Thank you!

They will be in phase. Yes, parallel does drop the output but it still works. Those are all good pickups. The humbuckers have a cool balance between higher output and some strat character.

Welcome to the forum...great pickup choices!

A parallel switch drops the volume by about half or so. That isn't bad, though. It will sound better than those pickups split, however.

Excellent! Thank you both for the advice and confirmation! That all sounds exactly like what I'm looking for.

Thanks again!
