Cool strings I discovered!

My Dad's cousin gave me these strings made by a little company called Picker's Choice. I'm trying out a set of nickel-roundwound 9-42s on my Strat right now and I like them a lot!!

They're like D'addarios (nickelwound PC vs. nickelwound D'addarios makes sure I'm comparing apples to apples) but the top end is smoother and there seems to be less string tension for the same gauge so it's easier to play. Theyre real smooth, balanced, even sounding, they ring out and sustain well... great stuff!!!

Anyone else had experience with these?

You should try Ernie Balls then.

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

Sounds interesting. I don't think I'll be straying from my DRs on my main guitars, but maybe I'll try out some 10s for my Epi and Strat.

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

i was strictly an ernieball guy but recently ive been putting a set of dardarios on my acoustic and i love it.

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

I like string tension too. So these don't sound like the string for me.

D'adario is usually my choice on guitar, though I try out other brands here and there. DR is my hands down choice for bass.

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

I haven't heard of them. But it;s always worth experimenting with new brands. I've stuck with Ernie Ball Classics for years, but I'ld give these a try.

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

I just found the most amazing strings ever. They're called Snake Oil Strings. I figured I'd try them after some of the guys at the Gear Page raved about them and they're fantastic. My Grosh feels like royalty now and I'm playing hard on them and they still sound new (I could get my GHS Boomers to sound well used within an hour).

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

The coolest set of strings I've ever had was that 10-46 D'Addario XL pack that I accidentally left in the refrigerator for a week, among Heineken cans :D

Re: Cool strings I discovered!

I use Elixir because they are coated, and i seem to have an enormous amount of acid in my sweat, and i allready have clamb hands, uncoated strings oxidate after 1 session (i use GHS Boomers and D'Addario XL as regular strings). The Elixir's are not cheap, about three times the price of a set D'Addario XL, but they last up to six times as long as the regulars. So for people with sweaty hands, i d recommend Elixirs.

I've always found EB's to be very tinny and thin sounding to me... I've tried them numerous times and have always been disappointed. I need pure nickel roundwound!

Really? Compared to d'addarios, I find them to be warmer in tone. I'm using 12's if that makes a difference.

OH yeah it does LOL... I use 9's on my FR-loaded Strat and 10's on my MIM Strat with noiseless singles.
