Cool Things at Summer NAMM

I didn't go to NAMM this year, but I wish I could have. The cool thing I've noticed is the Standard Edition Sundragon amp announced by Jimmy Page. I'll be checking YouTube for those videos. I haven't heard what Seymour Duncan is announcing. What else is cool out there?

In my experience, don't skip the little booths with start up companies -that's where the cool ideas and innovation are. The big companies make official announcements and communicate to everyone what they are doing outside of NAMM, so it's a waste if you spend all your floor time at NAMM in the big boy booths IMO

Re: Cool Things at Summer NAMM

Seems like a fairly calm NAMM season. Fender has a few new guitars & pedals & amps. Eastman has a cool new semi-hollow. Line 6 has some new versions of old models. Are companies getting away from the NAMM release schedule and just releasing stuff throughout the year?

Line 6 has a stereo Powercab 212 Plus, with neodymium speaker magnets and 6 more builtin speaker models (which apparently are much more Amp-In-The-Room than standard IRs, probably something similar to Farfield IRs). Hopefully they make a Powercab 112 Plus Neo with the 3.5lb lighter neo speaker, eventually. They also did a firmware update for the PC112+ with the 6 extra speaker models. All nice stuff, but I suppose just obvious evolution of products.

There's a paradox for releasing new stuff when everyone else does, it means you get less impulse buys right at release, unless your product happens to be the most desirable and affordable for more people right then. But if you don't release stuff at the big shows, you can be dismissed as stagnant, not keeping up... Seems many are settling on releasing something then, but not necessarily the big stuff. Release timing of firmware updates seems to aim for around the shows, if at all possible.

I think guitar has always followed the shows less than synthesizers or pro audio, though.

Check out the Charvel Superstock SC1!

The new Charvel Limited Edition Super Stock SC1 is a So Cal body with a relic paint job and retro ’80s styling, loaded with EVH and Seymour Duncan pickups – it’s shred nirvana!
Charvel Limited Edition Super Stock SC1

Everyone loves a classic Charvel So Cal body shape, with Netflix’s Stranger Things making us all nostalgic for the ’80s and relic guitars being a ‘thing’. It was only a matter of tome before Charvel put all this in the mix and made a guitar like this one.

The new Charvel Limited Edition Super Stock SC1 is a stripped back shred machine that has that ‘road warrior’ worn in vibe, courtesy of that black relic paint job on the alder body. I guarantee you that there are guys in their 40s thinking up excuses right now to sneak one of these past their wife unnoticed the minute they are available.
Slinky, and oh so fast

It has a fast maple neck with 22 Charvel jumbo frets on a 12-16″ compound radius Pau Ferro fretboard, with rolled edges. You know it will play like a certain dairy product I cannot bring myself to say outright.

EVH Loaded

Pickups are an EVH Wolfgang in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Lil’ Screamin’ Demon in the neck position. One Volume control and a three-way toggle switch is all you get and, to be fair, they’re all you need.
A Floyd Rose 1000 double locking bridge and nut should keep everything in tune while letting you squeal and dive bomb to your heart’s content. This is limited edition and pre-order are starting today, go and order/buy one now. Worry about what the wife says later.

Re: Cool Things at Summer NAMM

I bet that Charvel is fun to play.

Fender (and their brands) came out with a ton of new products so far.

There's a video for the Sundragon now:
