My buddy had one.

He is a BIG Trey Anastasio fan boy.

He will never be able to afford the real deal Anastasio-sig guitar, so the very next best thing was this M-900 Cort.

I'll be honest, the guitar impressed me !
Build quality (for the price) is bloody good !

Does it sound like a Les Paul ?
Close, but it also has it's own thing going.

If it is even possible to try and describe it this way : think 80% LP-like sound and 20% 335-semi-hollow-like.

Re: cort-m-custom-m900

It doesn't sound that much like a Paul - IMO it sounds better. The bridge JB isn't much like a Gibson PAF, but the neck pup is. The hollowness really adds to the sound, IMO - as long as you don't play loud with lots of gain - then it'll REALLY add to the sound ;-). This is a full hollow guitar; it has no center block. I have two of the earlier Korean made M800 ones (no piezo) and an Indonesian M Custom. I put a Stetsbar trem, Sperzels, and steel frets on the Custom - that's how much I like it. Fit and finish are slightly better on the Korean ones, but they're all well made.

The older M800 and some M900s had Mighty mite pickups instead of Duncans. They have a more traditional sound and are IMO good pickups. The non-piezo M800 bridges have a different stud spacing than a Paul, so you can't easily put an FRX or Stetsbar on one. The Piezo-equipped M900 and M Custom work fine. The headstock design isn't great for holding tuning with a trem, though.

Haven't tried this model but I've been impressed with Cort's quality. I would expect you to get some LPish tones...but if you want an LP tone I'd recommend getting an LP (Epiphone makes some nice ones and Gibson Studios are cheap used if you are on a budget.)

EDIT: I would not suggest putting a Floyd on a fully Hollow Body–no center block to mount to.

You ask too many questions, man. What about this and that and this other and the other one right there in every forum subsection.

You Sir, need to spend an entire day on a guitar shop and test the crap out of everything on sight.
At the very least you deserve it, since you seem really enthusiastic.

Try that.

I thought it might be risky too, but there IS a thick bridge plate that adds a bit of strength there. I asked Eric Stets about this when I got the Stets bar and he said that if the setup is strong enough to take the string tension, it's strong enough to mount the trem. So far no issues after a few years. I whammy pretty good on it, though it doesn't have the range of a regular Floyd. Somewhere between a Bigsby and a Fender, I'd say. I had an FRX in hand but it didn't fit the nonstandard M800 posts so I sent it back. I dunno if the range of that model is closer to the Stets or to a regular Floyd. It is MUCH heavier than the Stets, that's for sure.
