Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

so i wanted to get a downsized rig so that i wouldn't have to haul around my powerball and cabs all the time.
I was looking at the screamer 50 but something else crossed my eyes and i couldn't resist it anymore.
I present you, my new amp for smaller places:

Engl Sovereign 100 1x12 Combo(ebay link)
It's not the newest edition(E365) but the last one(E360), meaning it only has one effects loop and just two master volumes(i think that's enough anyways), but the rest is pretty much the same, so it rocks. From my experience the sovereigns are ultra versetaille and can do pretty much anything except maybe ultra high gain(gain levels of the sovereign are on the same level as the screamer, maybe a bit higher) stuff like the powerball, but that's what a OD is for.I like those amps quite a lot but the price tag is what always scared me off.

including Z-10 Footswitch(big expensive footswitch):

everything at your foot, which is very practical and the Z-10 is pretty expensive on it's own. Very good

Last thing added is a flightcase, which is also very practical to store the amp safely and haul it around more easily.

So i asked the seller lots of questions to which he responded in a matter of minutes(very cool), and everything should be great. The amp needs a bit of cleaning but that's it.
All of this came at a imo great price and actually i couldn't be happyer right now.
Just had to share my excitment.

Nice score. I hope you post some clips sometime. Is that cabinet as thick as it looks? :13:

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

Nice score. Give us a full report on it's tone once you get it!!

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

Hehe!Gratuliere!
I am really an Engl fan and there is no Engl that sounds bad!
I am happy that you found what you needed. And the footswitch is really sweet.

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

Very, very nice!

But I have to ask, does this mean you have two bigass footcontrollers? LOL

actually yes, i have the Z-5 for my Powerball and the Z-10 for this baby. The thing is,that AFAIK the Z-10 isn't compatible with the Powerball and the Z-5 doesn't fit the sovereign, but since the Z-10 was included i'm not complaining ;)
Only issue could be integrating both into my pedalboard, i guess i'll have to exchange them based on the amp used, since there's not enough room for both.

If i can crank this baby to useable levels at home i'll try to record something, but i'm not good at it,so don't expect good sound quality.

can't say right now about the sovereign combo, but the cabs around my Powerball and my 4x12s are massively thick. Maybe you can judge from the pic, but i'm not 100% sure right now.

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

Very nice, ENGL's are amazing Amps.

I gotta ask something perhapsa bit stupid, how would you crank the Screamer with both lead and master volume?

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

well, the master volume so to say, sets the maximum to which the lead volume can move. To totally crank the lead volume you'll need to crank the master first, since in case the lead volume settings would exceed the master settings the lead would just get cut off and be kept on master level. That's how i know it from the screamer.
On this Sovereign both masters are footswitchable, what makes them very practical to keep volume balance between the four channels. Or deactivate them and have the heavy lead cranked louder than the master, this way you can get a solo boost from the deactivation(no master blocking the lead anymore).

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

Very nice!

I bet the speaker already broke in..my Screamer needs almost 0 presence :)

Enjoy the cool amp!

Re: Couldn't resist... (new Engl content)

well it was a giging amp so i bet it's broken in, but that means i don't have to do it. How old is your screamer?

I think it's almost 2 months ago I bought it. It was a new one.

if it's still you not broken in you seriously don't play enough, or too quiet. You need to make that screamer do what it's designed for(screaming) ;)

Wanna bet? :fingersx:

Try a Tube Toner! It's that floorbased tube preamp ENGL used to build for a couple of years. It has really, really cool features, and I really, really tried to like it, I tried real hard, but the distorted modes were just earpiercingly ice-picky to my ears! I tried it through a Mesa 2:90 and two closed back Marshall 1912 cabs, with a very dark sounding guitar (Ibanez RG470, a downright piece of crap if you ask me) but the tone would stay awfully bright. Too bad, 'cause featurewise the Tube Toner really is ultimately cool! It even has a stereo 2x2.5 watts solid state poweramp for connecting straight to a speaker cab, for home practice. But that overly bright tone just couldn't make me happy...

That's a cool amp - congrats!!! :headbang:

I think Ben(TwilightOddysey) has/had one and rather likes/liked it. Overall i'd join daemon barbeque in his statement. I never encountered an Engl that sounded bad(ok, the Classic was too vintage sounding for me but not bad in any way).

Only problem i might encounter with the sovereign is it's huge potential as a heat generator. The combo itself isn't very big,but there are 10 tubes working inside it. On the other hand i could maybe use it as kind a radiator when i place it in the right spot ;)

Hehe, that sounds familiar :)
I have an H&K Triamp combo I'm trying to sell, that has a similar amount of tubes in it, and as it also used to be my home practice amp and I played every day, I can assure you, I haven't had to use my heater all winter :fingersx:

I know, I know :D

I cranked it only once..didn't have the opportunity to play loud for a longer time yet.
