Cover band merchandise?

:smack: I need some opinions on band merchandise. Should a cover band try to sell their own tee shirts, when they don't even have a demo c.d. What is the best way to get your band's name out there? Should only original bands try to sell merchandise? I would appreciate some feedback.

Re: Cover band merchandise?

If someone will buy it, then sell it. Why not?

I don't know if it's true everywhere, but back in the 80's there were a few cover bands here in Massachusetts that had good size followings. They had T-shirts, bumper stickers, the whole bit. If they had an original or two they would make a seven inch and sell that too. Maybe now with VHS and DVD it's easier to see your favorite bands in the comfort of your own home than go to a bar and hear a cover band.

Sure, beanies t shirts and what knot, it gets your name out there, cover or not.

i'm in an up and coming cover band...have a pretty good following here in connecticut...actually playing toad's place tonight with big shot (billy joel tribute)...we GIVE AWAY stickers with our logo...we're not at the level where we'd feel comfortable charging people for stuff but the stickers get your name/website out there and people like free stuff

A few good friends of the family were in a cover band, and they gave away t-shirts, bumper stickers, and fridge magnets. They had a pretty big following up until the time they broke up, they even survived several name changes lol. They also had Miller Lite as their sponsor, which didn't hurt I'm sure.

I don't see why not. The Atomic Punks sell t-shirts and I even considered buying one at the last show. But the high drink prices at The House of Blues wiped me out.
