Cover of "So What"

Re: Cover of "So What"

You see I've had some strange love
Some good, some bad, some strange love.
Some so-so love, so what. But c'est la vie.
But let me just proclaim that... you're the strangest love I've ever known.

I thought this was it LOL

Re: Cover of "So What"

I dig it! That is the tone that made me GAS for a semi-hollow body axe.

I bought one from theodie, then put a Crazy 8 in it!

It's used on the last two songs I posted.

Once again, I like the tone you got from that axe!

Re: Cover of "So What"

alright man, your tone's really good!

Here's a few suggestions:
1. I agree with what most have said about tempo. If you don't have backing tracks you definitely need to hit up a metronome, you can use one with a click in an ear bud if you don't want it coming through the recording. Also, dig on some of those Abersold album/books, it'll give you a good work-out, you won't have to make your own tracks, and you can focus on your time and soloing.
2. The bass part that you were simulating sounded good, but you're missing a note, it's hard to explain unless I had sheet music in front of me to show you, but go back and listen to it. There's an "and of 4" you're missing every time. I went back to listen to it to make sure I'm right, it was hard to hear cause I'm on laptop spearkers at the moment, but it's there.

This is probably the most lude/vile way I've ever tried to explain rhythm but here's what I hear.

&1&2&3&4&...."so what"

&1&2&3&4.... "so what"

&1&2&3&4&... "so what"

&34 1&

dunno if this explains a thing, but if you get the Abersold books you should see it there.

Take care and keep playin man!

:laugh2:

I still love weezer, and Modest Mouse and I still play that kind of stuff...i just enjoy jazz more

I was introduced into Jazz. I love bebop. it's my favorite genre. this isn't bebop per se but I love the likes of Miles, Coltrane, and Monk, and JJ Johnson.

Re: Cover of "So What"

I sent you what I thought via PM!

I guess I gotta show my man-love in public. Well here's the PM:

"I was gone all weekend and I just moved back up to school today. Sorry dude! I listened to the clip last Friday after work, and it's really good. Your take on the main riff is very good. The solo got a little screwed up in spots, but it stayed to the original idea behind the song, and I liked it.

Nice going! Sorry this took so long.
Andrew"

You pushed me to air our dirty laundry Marcus. You. Happy now?

Re: Cover of "So What"

Cream, I'm really liking it! Love this Miles tune, and your take on it is really good. Like other's have said, the only problems I see with it is the timing in some spots, but otherwise I think it's a very good recreation of the song. You're clips are making me want to really learn jazz instead of the poor Mixolydian mode soloing I pass off as jazz! :laugh2:

Keep up the work man, and I forgot to mention above, nice tone!
