You are asking two different things. Potted vs unpotted, yes unpotted pickups squeal. That's why potting got started - to solve that particular feedback problem.
Covered vs uncovered is a separate issue. Some pickups, when not snug inside the cover, can vibrate and feedback from that vibration. That's not directly correlated to potting, however.

depends... is the cover causing the squealing or not? if its only squealing cause its unpotted then no its the same... but if the cover isnt fit right right it could be causing the squealing.

It is stock, the way Seymour installed it.....guess I will have to take cover off to try it and see.....

I have Seths and they squeal because they are unpotted mainly. Taking the cover off an unpotted pickup isn't going to solve all your squeal problems.
And your original question wasn't posed as "will an unpotted pickup with a cover squeal if I take the cover off."

If it came from SD with a cover my bet is its squealing cause its an unpotted pup... it will still squeal after you take it off. Try very lightly potting it instead.

I like my S.Lover A5 mag w/out cover, and when playing live (got to do that last week) I had 15 watts of Blues Jr. almost flat out: vol-on10 gain-on 6-7. Plus ZenDrive Red Dot for solo boost, no feedback.
Same thing w/my Fender Deluxe 40 watts, master on 10, gain on 3-4, clean channel, ZDrive Red, uncovered, no potted pick up, no squeal or feedback.
SJ .....ps I don't get much live time, so one gig is very satisfying when it happens.
