Covers or No Covers?

I have stock pups on my new Epi Les Paul. Classic Pros at the neck and Pro Bucker 3s at the bridge (Epiphone specs).

They come uncovered with a nice zebra pattern. Would there be any reason to ever cover them? I think they look classic as is.

I used to insist on covers for all my HB's, but lately have started going with open coils, especially with zebras. Without covers the sound is opened up a little bit.

Re: Covers or No Covers?

I generally like my HB's covered, unless the open coils are double cream. I can also tolerate some zebra sets in certain guitars, but I can't do exposed double black. Just one of my personal weird quirks. Fortunately, I have enough double cream Duncan's stored up for 5-6 different H/H guitars including a JB from the 80's and a Brobucker.

I think your guitar looks perfect with the Zebra's. I wouldn't change a thing.

Yep. Livlier. Usually better. Usually louder too. Pushes the amp into overdrive more easily.

I do like my covered Antiquitys though.

I’m a Zeppelin nut and love Classic Rock tones. Would there be any reason to upgrade to SDs right now? I’m enjoying to tone with the stock pickups but the Whole Lotta Humbuckers are interesting.
