Crate amps question

I need a good practice amp and I was considering a small Crate amp. I see they put 12" speakers in their 15 watt amps so that sounds like a good idea to me, but the two I am looking at(the GTD15R and the FW15R) are very similar in size, features, and wattage. Do they sound different? What are the differences between them? Besides looks of course!

Re: Crate amps question

I know, but for a practice amp I don't need a boutique $1300 amp. Solidstate 15 watts with a 12" speaker would work fine. It's just that the two look similar with similar features and I don't know which one to buy. Do they sound different? I understand though, Crate!

Re: Crate amps question

if you're gonna get a "bedroom" amp...look into the Crate V15....it's a 10" speaker either Tone Tubby or Celestion (depending on the year) Awsome amps ( i've got the crate V30 "3112TT") these guys are LOUD, and have an awesome sound to them.

Re: Crate amps question

If you want a good bedroom practice amp, any low wattage solid state combo'll work. I happen to like my Roland Micro Cube a lot for this application and at $125 it was a no brainer for me.

Re: Crate amps question

I have a Crate VC20, all tube, class A. basically the same amp you speak of=
Mine is an older model- put some decent tubes and speaker in it, and you have a tone machine. I have used it live, (it's plenty loud) but we mic everything anyway.
The guys love my little cracker-box amp, and it sounds even better with my 4x12.
People think it is a boutique amp! I have JJ el84s in it. It screams! and has no problem keeping up with my 50 watt Marshall. If the Crate namebadge turns you off- just remove it!

Re: Crate amps question

How much does it cost and how much gain does it have? Oh, and does it have a 12" speaker?

Re: Crate amps question

dude, the solid state crate would do you good. My head is a crate and I love it. I will make the jump to tubes soon but for now it's great.
