Crate GT3500H shockwave head?

Anyone use this 350-watt beast? [350 with a 2 ohm cab that is]

I'm curious about going solid state once again.

This and Randall's G3 heads have caught my eye.

I got a disease. And the only thing that will cure it is more cowb...er...I mean, is selling and then buying more guitar stuff.

If it's 350watt solid state than it's probably not any louder than a 100watt tube amp. Possibly even quieter.

I don't know about that. I've got a 300-watt Line 6 head that is loud and proud. I'm not the spokesman for solid state by any means, but I do believe once you get up in the couple of hundred watts with SS, volume isn't really an issue. Especially pushing 4-12" speakers. But yeah, I think through my 4-ohm cab, it drops the wattage down to like 220 or so.

Woooo--when I first got my Vetta I made the mistake of thinking 300 SS watts would be around the same as a 50 or 100 watt tube amp--which it normally is. I cranked the thing about half way up, hit a chord and pain shot through my ears like I've never felt before. I was only about three feet away from it and I could feel my pants legs move, lol. Not your typical SS head by any means. I think with this sucker, 300 watts MEANS 300 watts. In normal use, I've never had it past 10:00.

The Crate Powerblock will absolutely bury a 50W Marshall and can hang right with the 100W.

Re: Crate GT3500H shockwave head?

the new rythm guitar player in my band used to use a Johnson modeling amp, and then he started using this crate one because my bass player had one over in his basement. he switched from his modeling amp to this one. its deffinately loud. but my 50watt mesa can easily keep up with it, and its a 1x12 combo. i think the 350 watts is (no offense) for wanna be punks who wanna be cool and compensate for...well, lacking other areas. it doesn't sound half bad honestly...my opinions on crate haven't always been the best, but this one isnt bad. it goes with my mesa's sound rather well. its got a deeper/darker, chunky kinda sound. my only gripe is it squeals like a damn pig on the 3rd "lead channel"...and thats with him using an EC-1000 (? - esp-ltd les paul body style) with ACTIVE 81/85's....

Maybe I should look into one for a higher-gain setup.

I have been pretty decided on getting a solid state high gain setup for awhile.

The PB isn't high-gain. It'll do Malcolm Young gain, pretty much tops. LOVES pedals though.

This Class D thing is the future of audio, IMO. It'll run all day long on 10 and never even get warm.

A buddy of mine has an ESP LTD F-200 w/ an 81 and 85 and it also squeals like a pig. I have an 81 and 85 set and I put a piece of cut up mouse pad in the pickup cavity and it pretty much stopped the pig syndrome. He won't do it and his fiddle still squeals. Maybe it'll work for your buddy.:fingersx:
