Crate HalfStack

Re: Crate HalfStack

Generally.... Crates suck. But, i try to never rule out amps based on these generalizations. try one out if possible, and do some price checks on new ones. But the Crates i have heard werent even close to being worth my time or money.

Re: Crate HalfStack

On eBay I wouldn't go more than $500

Yngwie Malmsteen used to endorse Crate, so at one time they were good enough for somebody.... The sound doesn't work for me, but they get the job done for a few people I know.
Rock On :13:

He sais the reserve is $600, and for that kind of money I'd definately rather see the amp in person, texas is far from california. I'm sure it's a decent amp, the guy from journey is playing it lol.

Re: Crate HalfStack

BTW Kac, how do you like your Fender FM212, my friend is planning on getting one. And I just might if it lives up to it being on Mf's bestseller list since it came out.

I wasn't quite sure about the amp when I saw it in the shop, but since owning it, it has become my favorite solid state amp I've ever owned. I've owned Marshall, Crate, Rocktron, Peavey, etc... all solid states, and the FM212 sounds better than all of 'em.
I have used it for some metal, metallica, megadeth and so on, and with my SD Pick-up booster it works just fine.
Recently I have used it for more bluesy stuff and Jimi Hendrix, It's definetly doing the trick, but having the right Pick-ups helps...
I couldn't afford a Blues Jr. or other sweet Fender tube amps at the time, so the FM212 is an awesome alternative.

Re: Crate HalfStack

That looks like a Crate Stealth, which was designed by Lee Jackson. It's probably one of the few Crates, prior to the new V Series, that is worth buying. The head alone is worth $200-$300.
